Experience Summary
I began teaching high school Drama while still in college in 1982, and went on to win four state championships. I began tutoring SAT students and teaching prep classes for the Princeton Review in 1989. I have taught GED prep for Rockingham County Services. In 1992, I began tutoring special needs students and teaching summer school social studies at Portsmouth High School (1992-1997). That year, I returned to college and earned a degree in English.
From 2000-2007 I was Chair of the history and Drama Depts. at the Woodward School in Quincy, MA. That same year I began teaching History for phillips Exeter Academy's summer session (2000-2008). Presently I teach History full time at the Holderness School in pLymouth, NH,
Teaching Style
I like to take the dry facts and rules of a subject and engage the students -- primarily through Harkness Mehtod discourse -- on the relevance of the subject and text to contemporary life, whether to absorb material or simply for the learning experience of deconstruction. Having the students write accomplished papers -- essay, research or argumentative -- is always a rewarding experience for myself and my students.
