Experience Summary
I have always been interested in Education, obtaining a Doctorate and having been a Visiting Professor at Tufts and a Visiting Scientist at MIT. I edit the pedalogical "Light Touch" column for Optics and Photonics News and have tutored undergraduates throughout my graduate career in Physics, Optics, and higher Mathematics.
Teaching Style
For my Light Touch columns, I use humor with pedagogy to create "Education by Stealth", which works with optics professionals as well as students. For undergraduates, I have always tried to make the topics as accessible as possible, using simple examples and diagrams to show students the essential physics or math so that they are not lost in the formalism. For my recent work with grade school children, I have emphasized "hands-on" teaching to try to awaken an interest in experimentation and spontaneous suggestion to what to do next.
