Experience Summary
Attending UNC Asheville helped me to realize the irreplaceable value of a passionate, knowledgeable, and empowering teacher. After I received my minor in Mathematics, I applied to become a math tutor for a high school student. I have tutored this student for a year and a half now in Math, writing, and Spanish. Also, throughout this last semester of my undergraduate career, I participated in a Peer Mentor Program through UNC Asheville in which I taught, with a Literature professor, both in and out of the classroom.
Teaching Style
I enjoy teaching students of all ages and academic experiences, whether it is the high school student who doesn't want to attend school anymore or the most avid learner in the university setting. I truly believe that every person is capable of learning if they are presented the material in a way which can motivate them to internalize the value of an education. I do not think that assuming a superior role in the situation of teaching or tutoring is helpful, and I strive to instill confidence in every student whom I encounter.
