Experience Summary
As an education major at TCNJ, I wanted to learn as much as I could about teaching. I also wanted to learn about many different subjects so I could really help students in any and all fields that they needed help in. Aside from my Education degree, English was my second major. However, I love math and took enough math courses to teach middle school math. That is my current job. I have tutored for numerous years. The most recent experience was during college. I tutored students in elementary and middle school with their homework for all subjects. This was for the duration of college.
Teaching Style
I enjoy being in a small group with students. Although I love being with an entire class of students, I feel that some of the most positive and beneficial teaching occurs when I am able to focus on a small group of students. I like to teach topics where there are concrete life examples. That is why I enjoy teaching math: there are so many examples in every day life. I also believe that a lot of the reason students fall behind in their subjects is they do not have a strong enough literary background. Reading proficiently opens many doors that may otherwise be closed. I feel that is it vitally important that teachers recognize this and do everything they can to help students achieve.
