Experience Summary
Throughout my scholastic career I have always been a focused and driven student. While at Elder, I was a Spanish and science tutor, graduated in the top four percent of my class, and received the distinction of "National Hispanic Scholar." Also, during the summers, I volunteered at Children's Hospital, monitoring play-rooms and working with children of all ages. Here at Ball State I am pursuing degrees in Pre-Medicine and Spanish and am well-versed in Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy, and all aspects of writing, both in English and Spanish. My cumulative GPA at this time is 3.93. Last semester I made my first foray into the world of teaching, and spent the semester working on English pronunciation and grammar with a Cuban woman. This experience was invaluable and opened my eyes to the joy of helping someone learn while giving me the skill set necessary to create lesson plans and monitor progress.
Teaching Style
While working with an adult native Spanish speaker to improve her English was certainly rewarding, my desire has always been to work with children or adolescents, as I feel that they are more amenable to an educational program and have a greater learning capacity when given the proper opportunities. My teaching style is one of constant progression, in which the student's strengths and weaknesses are weighed and an appropriate lesson plan formed based on his/her abilities. This lesson plan can be subject to change based upon rapid progression or extended difficulties in a subject, and I also take into account each student’s distinct learning style. Education should be a process in which a pupil is made to not only regurgitate facts but also to become motivated through active learning and discovery. I am a patient but firm instructor who would love to further adolescents along their educational path.
