Experience Summary
After graduating from Seattle Pacific University with a degree in English, I spent a year working as a reading tutor in an elementary school through AmeriCorps (the specific program I worked with was the Washington Reading Corps). Following my year in AmeriCorps I spent nearly 3 years working in the Seattle School District as a substitute instructional assistant. During this time I worked in many of the same schools, providing small group and individual tutoring and educational support. In addition, I earned my TESOL certificate from Western Washington University in 2004. Part of this 27-credit program included a 2-month teaching practicum in Mexico. I have also spent time tutoring ESL in evening programs over the past few years through organizations such as North Seattle Community College and St. James ESL in Seattle. I have experience working with a wide variety of ages.
Teaching Style
I enjoy working with all ages of students, from kindergarten through adults. My teaching style is based on the individuals I am working with and the curriculum being used. I try to gauge which methods work best for the students I'm working with and and am creative, patient, and flexible. I have good rapport with students and work hard to find ways to help them learn.
