Experience Summary
As a cum laude graduate, I have always strived to achieve the high goals I set for myself. During my student teaching semester of college, I managed to obtain a 4.0 grade point average while I performed every teaching task that was set forth for me. Before graduation I was offered a full time position teaching third grade with Cumberland County schools. During my year as a third grade teacher I became well versed in differentiating my teaching style to meet every student's needs. My students consistently did well on both standardized and classroom tests. Their scores were consistently the second highest in the grade level. I was also kept abreast to the latest theories and studies throughout the year as I attended several staff development courses.
Teaching Style
Through teaching students with learning disabilities and tutoring a sister with Down’s Syndrome, I learned not only are no two children alike, but they don’t learn the same either. I pride myself in explaining even what seems to be the simplest task in a variety of ways, and won’t be satisfied until my student not only sees the answer but also understands. I constantly change my teaching style depending on the child and his or her learning style. I am quick to think on my feet if I need to throw the lesson plan “out the window” and start again fresh. I am a caring person who conveys that to those students I teach. One cannot begin to mold a child's life unless you have a mutual trust, love and understanding for one another. It is up to people like myself, dedicated teachers, to help students reach their individual goals.
