Experience Summary
I have always had a passion for kids, which is what led me to a career in Education. I earned an undergraduate degree in Middle Grades Education, with a concentration in each Mathematics and Science. My students are the driving force that motivates me to use nontraditional methods of teaching in order to get through to them. My desire to always be a better teacher has pushed me to pursue a Masters degree, which I am currently working on. For the past four years I have tutored many students, in all areas ranging from grades 3 to 11, and college calculus.
Teaching Style
Working with all kinds of children is my passion. All children can learn in my eyes; it is my job to find out each individuals best method of learning and to cater to their specific needs. I believe that in general, education works best when it is student centered. Instead of me teaching at the front of the classroom, I give the children a problem scenario and they use their prior knowledge to "connect the dots" and discover their own methods for problem solving. I firmly believe that cooperative learning takes children places that one teacher alone cannot. I believe in positive reinforcement and rewards for not only right answers, but anything positive that a child has to offer. Simple recognition will make any students day.
