Experience Summary
As an educator, I stayed at home until my own three children were in school. But I always kept my feet in part time work with adults and children needing help. I am an experienced teacher with over 11 years of teaching in programs I designed to deliver help to childen in need. Those jobs were in Reading Resource, Title I Programs, Reading Recovery, Esol, etc. In Florida schools and previously in Wisconsin, I specialed in reading, writing, and math with small groups of 1- 6 children. I have also tutored second language children and adults. My graduate work and extensive reading background have given me a wonderful variety of approaches to fit an individual child's needs.
Teaching Style
I have worked with many types of learners from those not reading at all to those needing just a boost. I understand how to match a child's ability to a given level so he is learning but not frustrated. I believe in a fun and positive learning setting. I have many games and manipulatives to use in teaching. I also have a wonderful collection of children's books to supplement given teaching materials. Most of all I love seeing a child grow when the "light" goes "on" for him or her. The joy of seeing children succeed academically is not a mystery to me, but a lifelong and attainable goal for all children. I have never had an unteachable or unloveable child.
