Experience Summary
While I was in college, I was a nanny/ tutor for two girls- ages eight and nine for two years. Soon after, I spent two years as a paraprofessional, working one-on-one with emotionally disturbed and behavior disorder students ages twelve to eighteen. At Emporia State University I student taught in Kansas City, Kansas elementary schools for a full year and graduated with honors. Currently, I am a substitute teacher in Kansas City waiting for a full time position this fall. My focal points in tutoring are Language Arts, Social Studies, the arts, and general elementary education.
Teaching Style
When I teach, I am very nurturing and I want to make sure that my students are fond of the learning process. I like to bring a sense of humor to my classroom and not only provide the best education possible, but also provide an enjoyable learning atmosphere. I like when students are provided hands-on learning experiences and I plan to use them frequently when teaching. I prefer to be a guide and a facilitator instead of ruler when I teach, ensuring that the student and I hold a mutual respect and trust. I am quick to build a good rapport with students and believe that this helps me be an educator who they will remember and will make a difference in their lives.
