About Me

Experience Summary

I taught ESL, voice lessons and tutored biology, reading, vocabulary and comprehension over a three year period. I have taught students from Japan, China, Brazil, Korea, and Colombia in one class. I have taught students ranging from five to fifty years old. The high school girl that I tutored in Biology, showed rapid improvement after I identified and addressed her test phobia. Her scores went from a D to a B+ immediately. In other cases I was able to help small children with reading by use of phonics, pictograms, and role playing games. I tailor the program to the way each child learns. I am a trained artist and am capable of creating materials when necessary. I am an opera singer with extensive experience singing in Latin, German, Italian and French. I am fluent in French after ten years of study including Literature courses in college which were conducted entirely in French. I have also visited Paris and was conversant with the natives. I feel particularly capable in tutoring reading, writing, comprehension, vocabulary, ESL, French and the arts.

Teaching Style

I believe that each mind is as individual as each person. Much of the time, a problem is a system that is not individualized or flexible enough. I feel I have a unique insight into seeing the way a child learns and finding the pathway that will lead them to success in school. The very things that make it difficult for a child to learn in the school system may be the things that help them "think outside the box" later in life and should not be squleched. And yet, to get to a point where they can share their gifts, they must be successful in the educational system. There is a way to solve this conundrum and I believe I have the answer.
