Experience Summary
I graduate from ASU with a BA in History, a BS in Family Studies, a certificate in Nonprofit Management, and a minor in African American Studies. I was accepted to Teach for America and taught in Phoenix this past year. I taught 7th grade learning disabilities and will teach 8th grade learning disabilities in the fall. I have taught reading, writing and math but have tutored my students in all subjects. I will be teaching math, social studies, reading and writing in the fall. I have completed more than half of the credits needed for my teacher certification and have a full SEI endorsement. I have also worked with Special Olympics for approximately five years.
Teaching Style
My experience with Special Education has taught me that all children can learn and be successful in academic activities. Some children need explicit instruction and other children need to create their own meaning from academic information. I believe that children need to be invested and interested in the academic material in order to learn. I enjoy working with children and helping them become successful. All children can and want to learn, some simply need more individual attention than others.
