Experience Summary
I graduated from Wright State University with my Bachelors Degree in Social Science Education in 2006 and my Masters Degree in Education in 2007. I currently hold an Ohio teaching license and am certified to teach Integrated Social Studies in grades 7-12. The social studies content courses, both graduate and undergraduate, have given me a strong academic background in all areas of the social studies including: history, sociology, psychology, political science, geography, government and economics. The graduate program’s education courses have also given me a strong, theory and strategy based background as an educator. My full year of student teaching experience at Fairborn High School helped me build my confidence and teaching expertise. Finally, my one year of experience as a lead teacher at Tower Heights Middle School in Centerville and the time spent with students on an every day basis has truly given me my foundation as a teacher.
Teaching Style
For me, education goes beyond the textbooks and worksheets that typify many social studies curriculums. Students need to experience the content on many levels, giving them a full and complete understanding in all areas of social studies. I believe in using technology such as interactive PowerPoints, SmartBoards, WebQuests, and simulations to enhance class materials. I firmly believe that each and every student is capable of learning and growing and I am confident in my abilities to facilitate that growth. Based on that belief, I will continue to set high but achievable goals for my students, challenging them to make the next step in their individual academic journey. I have the responsibility as a teacher to equip my students to face the real world after school. My overarching belief is that I can, and will, make a positive difference in each of my students through my teaching.
