Experience Summary
Education has played an important role in my life and success since my elementary school years, and I feel its value is immeasurable. In 2007, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, with a minor in chemistry. Currently, I am a nursing student, as my ultimate goal is to be a pediatric nurse practitioner. I began tutoring my peers in middle school for Algebra I and continued for years. I graduated from high school with an honors diploma, with recognition from the National Honor Society as well as Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society. I have also won numerous awards for essay writing and oratorical/speech contests. From Sept. 2005-May 2007, I worked for a Washington, DC charter school through a government grant, tutoring students in English/reading and mathematics. Since my return to Memphis in the summer of 2007, I have been tutoring students in ACT/SAT preparation, which encompasses all subjects, as well as mathematics.
Teaching Style
Any opportunity to help someone else is one I enjoy participating in. As I mentioned, I am going into nursing and wish to work in pediatrics. I have been tutoring children/adolescents for years and can truly say that it has been a rewarding experience. Relating or connecting with a student have never been an issue with me. I am familiar with the various learning styles/techniques and do my best to incorporate them in my instruction. My aim is not only for my student's grades to improve but also for him/her to master the material. Therefore, I constantly review and reinforce previous lessons. My ultimate reward is for a student to become independent in a subject matter and even be proficient enough to teach or assist someone else.
