Experience Summary
When I discovered how much I enjoy teaching I prepared myself to launch a second career. I earned a second degree and have almost completed my M.A. in History at USF. along the way, I have taught Latin and History to a wide variety of students from the sixth grade to college students. Throughout high school and college I have studied languages such as Spanish, French, Latin, and Classical Greek. Along with teaching a foreign language I have taught English since the study of any foreign language involves teaching the native language. From my experience writing almost two dozen research papers in my graduate studies at USF, I have practiced academic writing and can instruct students in the skills of research and writing as well as reading comprehension.
Teaching Style
I feel that I am an empathetic teacher yet I hold my students to high standards of accomplishment. I try to bring a variety of materials to the lesson that help the student gain insight into the objective of the lesson. I try to make the lesson challenging, interesting and fun. Any good teacher will try to discover the strengths and weaknesses of their students and play to their strengths while remedying their weaknesses. Students need to discover the world but they also need to understand the perspectives of society and its cultures and traditions. Students also need to learn how to learn so that as adults they can continue to progress and advance. I think successful students become life-long learners.
