Experience Summary
I am a current high school English teacher, with experience in teaching Journalism, Publications, and middle school language arts. I began tutoring students (middle school and elementary school) during a stint in Americorps (2002), and continue to tutor my own ESL students today. My strength is in teaching writing, specifically writing for standardized tests. I feel very comfortable teaching all areas of language arts, reading, study skills, and test preparation.
Teaching Style
I enjoy teaching and working with young people. I am a firm believer that students work up or down to expectations--I consistently hold high expectations and enjoy watching students work hard to meet them. Part of the challenge (and joy) of teaching is figuring out how to convey information to different types of learners. I am fascinated by the learning process, and enjoy devising new ways to teach the same subject material. On any given day in my classroom, students will be moving around, participating in discussions, writing, reading, and creating hands-on projects to solidify learning.
