Experience Summary
I have spent my 13 years as an educator in a variety of capacities. I spent four years as a tutor for an autistic child while I was in school. After receiving my bachelor’s degree in education, I worked for three years as the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade alternative school teacher for the Chandler Unified School District. I then worked part-time as the curriculum writer for a residential alternative facility, also opening and teaching in their middle school program. Following that experience, I spent two years teaching Title 1 English at a middle school. I currently own and operate my own business, earning my master’s of education in the process.
Teaching Style
I have spent most of my career working with children who were unsuccessful in a traditional classroom. Discouraged and failing, many of my students had no recent memory of being successful. By showing them that they were capable learners, they regained their confidence and motivation. I used simple structured lessons to explain methods and concepts. I emphasized the relevance and meaning of all work, and allowed time for inquiry and discovery. Students were assessed only after thorough preparation. Strengths were emphasized; difficulties were embraced as a challenge. By creating opportunities for success, my students were willing to work through their struggles.
