Experience Summary
I have taught elementary school for a total of seven years. One of those years I spent as a Wriiting Coordinator for an Elementary school. I was responsible for ensuring the success of the school's state adopted writing program. In addition, I spent one year as a Technology Coordinator. As a technology coordinator I worked with students in small groups to complete research projects and technology based presentations. Currently I am the Director of Education at Sylvan Learning Center. Sylvan Learning Center is a tutoring service that provides tutoring in many different subjects. As the director I have experience teaching english, math, wriitng, study skills and SAT prep. I hire new teachers and train them to teach our program.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is very unique. I believe that in order for a student to learn and retain information, they must be able to make a connection between the material that they are learning and their own life. Therefore I always ensure that I make real life connections when teaching skills. I show students how the material relates to their own lives and how it will be useful to them in the future. I also believe in allowing students to use their own critical thinking skills in order to solve problems. That means, that instead of teaching a student basic facts and details, I teach students how to think for themselves. I also enjoy using manipulatives and realia during instruction. I believe that integrating books, articles and artifacts ensures that students are able to grasp a concept.
