Experience Summary
My backgrounds in special education (BS), adult GED preparation, and nursing (AAS - RN) have helped me develop into a patient, skilled, and compassionate teacher/tutor. I have a strong instructional foundation in basic math, pre-algebra, basic geometry, nursing math, anatomy and physiology, essay writing, English usage, and learning disabilities. As a published author, I know the importance of careful proofreading and editing skills and am well able to apply this knowledge with my writing students. I love teaching, learning, and researching. Working with students gives me the greatest job satisfaction I've ever experienced.
Teaching Style
I love teaching both school-age students and adults. I believe the three most important qualities a teacher can bring to a student are expert skills in the areas being taught, patience, and optimism. I truly believe all students can learn, and I provide a safe atmosphere that encourages risk-taking (the willingess to make mistakes for the benefit of learning), exploration and expansion of background knowledge, and the progressive acquisition of new material. With guidance, a student can construct knowledge and own it. This is far more important and complex than just imparting information. A good teacher can make all the difference in the success of a student.
