Experience Summary
For most of my life I have wanted to teach. Due to this drive I have obtained my BS degree in elementary education and a Masters degree in ed. leadership. I have also earned the honor of receiving Teacher of the Year after my first year teaching at Cahoon Elementary (in Tampa, Florida) for the 2000-2001 school year. I am currently on my 8th year as a teacher and have done after-school tutoring and Saturday academy tutoring for Hillsborough County Public Schools before in reading, writing, and math. In the last few year I have been a resource teaching in reading, writing, and (more recently)science. The resource teaching position has allowed me to work with smaller groups of children from grades 3-5.
Teaching Style
I defintely believe all children can learn, although you have to be willing to acknowledge that there are different learning styles.Over the past several years as an educator, I have had many different experiences as a teacher in various Title One schools. Through these experiences my attitude on education has, for lack of a better word, evolved from what it once was. I now find myself not only hoping but truly believing that any student, no matter what educational background they may have, has the potential to be successful in school. During my first year of teaching I wasn’t quite sure I truly believed in that. But now I have seen firsthand just how true that statement can be. With a strong sense of purpose, the ability to have compassion, enthusiasm in the face of adversity, patience, and discipline, any pupil can reach their full potential. It’s this capacity for being able to overcome any obstacle, that truly makes the student’s we work with so very extraordinary. They only need someone to guide them on their journey and, as an educator, we are those lighthouse keepers steering them through the rough waters of their educational voyage.
