Experience Summary
I've always been drawn to the creativity and knowledge needed to use writing in very powerful and effective ways. I earned my bachelor's degree, taking classes that focused on writing for both stage and screen as well as a multitude of writing and reading comprehension classes in a wide range of subjects both academic and creative: theatre, english, literature, poly-sci, astronomy, anthropology, journalism, etc. While my education might suggest I'm only a playwright or poet, my extensive training has been extremely academic as well. I am confident in my grammar and essay structuring skills. After receiving my MA in New Zealand I spent two years tutoring beginning and intermediate academic writing and eng/reading lit courses (both for native and non-native english speakers) as well as theatre/eng lit courses. I also have experience free-lance tutoring one-on-one at a university level, and working in small group writing workshops.
Teaching Style
First and foremost I love to write, and I'm more than happy to extend a helping hand no matter the subject. I encourage my students to write about subjects that interest them, all the while teaching the organizational tools to become effective and influential academic and creative writers. Because I have experience teaching a variety of writing courses I have a wide knowledge of form vs function techniques. Ultimately, I enjoy teaching students to find their own voice and to feel confident writing on any suject for a variety of venues and genres.
