Experience Summary
I have always had an interest in English, journalism and language arts. I completed my bachelor's degree in English Literature and my master's degree in journalism and public affairs. The written word, how we communicate is extremely important in all levels of a student's personal and educational life. I want to make sure that every student has the confidence and ability to read fluently, compose and write with ease and generally, be able to express him or herself. Reading, writing, listening, fluency, etc. are skills that are important in every class and provide the foundation for students as they progress through school and college or any other training.
Teaching Style
Teaching is a journey - you are bringing the students with you, helping them see various subjects and themselves through what they read, observe, question, assess and relate to - whether it's a magazine article, book, website information or math question. I care about each of my students and am able to reach them because they know that. My teaching style varies as students vary. I like to apply Howard Gardner's "multiple intelligences" assessment to find out how a student learns. Are they strong in the linguistic area? The spatial area? In music? Graphically or artistically? I am flexible and adapt to my students rather than the other way around. I use music, poetry, short stories, newspaper articles, folk tales and more when I tutor students in English and reading.
