Experience Summary
I began tutoring in high school, mostly focusing in math subjects including algebra, geometry and calculus. I continued tutoring my peers while at the University of Oxford in England, and at Georgetown University as a post-graduate. I excelled in my science programs at both universities, allowing me to teach others. Most of my college tutoring or peer assistance focused in chemistry, biology, and physiology or other natural sciences. I gained experience with lesson planning and teaching younger students as a Sunday School teacher for preschool to middle school classes over three years. I have extensive writing experience from high school as editor-in-chief of our school publication, and throughout college in essays, dissertations and other reports. I have experience with all different kinds of testing environments and styles between English and American universities, and can help student with a variety of study needs.
Teaching Style
My primary strengths as a tutor and teacher lie in my complete understanding of the science material giving me an ability to simplify it in different ways to help others to understand. I have always learned best by working to fully grasp the logic and ideas behind each concept or topic, which I carry on to my students. When one understands the material there is less need for memorization, especially in the sciences where concepts build upon one another. Additionally, this is important to test taking conditions, enabling the student to competently tackle a broader range of potential questions and exam formats. I also use many different methods in my own learning and in teaching others, enabling flexibility in tutoring to best fit each individual’s learning style.
