Experience Summary
After earning my BS in Biological Sciences from UC Santa Barbara, I decided to live abroad in South America as a Peace Corps Volunteer to help others and put what I learned to practical use. I was stationed in Bolivia where I taught natural resource management, ecology, basic science, and nutrition to children as well as adults. I am fluent in both English and Spanish. In high school, I also tutored elementary school children and enjoyed it greatly.
Teaching Style
I believe that positive reinforcement, patience, and a genuine desire to see one’s students excel is the best way to success. I feel that the only way to get through to a child is to be his or her friend first and foremost, and to treat him or her as an equal. I love being both a tutor and a friend. My approach to teaching is more hands-on, rather than lecture based, because I feel that if the child is actively participating the lesson will be more likely to stick. I enjoy helping children learn and can not even begin to describe how fulfilling it is to see a child finally grasp a difficult concept.
