Experience Summary
I recently completed my education to be a communication and English educator at the University of Minnesota - Duluth. Through the program I spent a year as an apprentice at a middle school and high school. At these locations I not only observed, but also conducted the classroom a day each week. Also at this time I spent a day tutoring a low functioning reader one-on-one for the entire semester. The following year I student taught high school English and creative writing. In this year I also spent time tutoring after school in all content areas, (English, writing, science, math, study skills, etc.)
Teaching Style
To me teaching is about solving puzzles. Each student needs different devices or strategies to learn at their full potential. This is why I believe in experimenting with how class or a learning session is conducted. I pride myself on my courage to try something new and original in order to reach a student, even if it means failing; but from that failure I still learn. I feel the most important thing to teaching is to make a connection with the individual person - not just the student.
