Experience Summary
I began teaching EFL in my 20s while living in the Dominican Republic and fell in love with the profession. Over the past 15 years I have taught both EFL and Spanish in five countries to students from more than 80 countries. I use the Communicative Approach to language acquisition. My students enjoy my style and methods and assimilate the target language very quickly. My background includes extensive experience in classroom teaching, one-to-one tutorials, accent reduction, advanced composition, Business English, TOEFL preparation, exam writing, curriculum and materials development, teacher training, hiring and supervising, mentoring students as well as marketing and directing language programs.
Teaching Style
I find teaching languages an incredibly enriching experience for both my students and myself. Inside and outside the classroom I strive to be a role model, an ambassador from my country and the company I work for. One of my primary goals is to make the classroom a safe haven for students; a place where they can feel comfortable to be themselves, make mistakes, help each other improve, build self-esteem, create inside jokes among ourselves, laugh often and a lot and make new friends. With this philosophy I have achieved great things! My students usually have the highest self-confidence and thus the highest fluency, grades and overall performance levels at any university or institute where I have taught. They feel as though being a member of my class is like having a membership in a private club.
