Experience Summary
Throughout my education, I have excelled in every subject, particularly science and math. During college, I frequently studied in groups and assisted many classmates who were struggling. Some even began coming to me with questions instead of going to the professor because my explanations were more easily understood. For two years during college, I served as a tutor for the Athletics Department. While I more often tutored chemistry, I also tutored biology and math. During graduate school, I was selected as a Teaching Assistant for a Chemical Oceanography class. I also worked for two summers as a Science Mentor for an oceanography camp designed for students entering 9th grade. This included classroom teaching as well as teaching during field trips. In addition, I worked for one year as a Teaching Assistant/Tutor for a college-level general chemistry class.
Teaching Style
I especially enjoy one-on-one and small group tutoring as opposed to classroom teaching. I believe all students can excel in school, but some require individual attention that cannot be received in a traditional classroom setting. During my experience as a tutor, I learned that I am particularly good at figuring out an individual's learning style. This helps me to explain concepts in a way the student will understand. I am very patient and open-minded and I enjoy working with kids and people of all ages. I have also held various science-related jobs and therefore can bring in real-world examples to help explain a concept.
