Experience Summary
In preparation for college, I knew that in order to get into the kind of small private colleges I was looking for, earning a high enough score on the standardized exams like the SAT and ACT was very important. Although I scored very well on both tests, my writing and reasoning skills underwent great improvement in my college's intensive honors program for accelerated studies. Since 2005 I have been tutoring full time, and teaching in small classrooms for the Anchorage school district. I have had great success with a variety of students and types of curriculums in all subject matters.
Teaching Style
My teaching style varies depending on the type of students I am teaching to because I believe that each student has a particular learning style that they find easier. I think that it is important to find the types of learning that each student finds easiest to understand, and tailor the course so that it works well with their particular learning abilities. This can easily be done in a classroom setting as well as an individual basis. In either case, while I am teaching I think that it is important to understand the topic we are on before moving to the next one. Slowing down to completely grasp each idea helps students to gain confidence in their learning ability, and actually helps the classroom or individual to progress much faster overall. Giving students a hope for their future ability to learn is one of the best things I can do for them.
