Experience Summary
A management person with the world's largest transportation company presents many daily challenges, not the least of which is motivating and training an employee staff of as many as 90 employees. During my fourteen years at UPS, I've conducted many workshops, conducted one-on-one training, mentored/developed junior managers, developed training agendas. I've also spent time working with children of all ages as a coach on the baseball & football fields, volunteered for Junior Achievement-a program that connects business leaders with public education classrooms, managed adult sports teams, and been a youth group leader in church. Last but not least, I was an NCO in the Marine Corps.
Teaching Style
Personality plays a big part in the teaching process. It is important for the teacher to remain positive and encouraging. Each student will be motivated by different things and the teacher must recognize that. In a group atmosphere (classroom) it's important to have structure, an agenda, while at the same time ensuring that each student knows that the teacher's main goal is to help them learn. Participation is a key element. One-on-one sessions require a slightly different approach, it's more about what will it take for that student to achieve the learning objective.
