Experience Summary
I recently graduated with the highest honors from the University of Florida. I double-majored in economics and international relations with a minor in business administration, giving me both strong analytical and writing skills. I learned to communicate effectively through writing research papers and creating oral presentations. I have also taken math through calculus, English, biology, and chemistry at the college level and feel comfortable tutoring high school students in these areas. I have previous experience giving private English lessons to Brazilians, both in the states and in Brazil. My students ranged from beginners to advanced when I began working with them. I prepared oral and written course work tailored to their skill level, with special attention to typical problem areas for Portuguese speakers.
Teaching Style
I feel that the relationship formed between tutor and student is as important as the information being taught. A sincere concern for people is the foundation for successful and influential teaching. I gladly spent extra time planning an English lesson if it allowed the student to connect better with the material. To keep interest levels high, I would teach a lesson and then create practice exercises around one of the student's favorite hobbies such as cooking, surfing, or music. These exercises aided comprehension and retention while providing a fun and enjoyable learning experience. I believe in challenging students, giving them the tools they need to meet that challenge, and watching them succeed!
