Experience Summary
My college education was very self driven and self propelled. I received three academic scholarships throughout my college career and maintained a 3.84 GPA for the entire four years. At the close of my four years, I earned a BS is History, giving me a particularly good foundation in the humanities and English composition. I did hundreds of pages of research writing in my major, and maintained a very high level of excellence in all subjects, proving proficiency and diligence. I carried this knowledge and self-discipline over to tutoring young people, particularly young people with learning disabilities. I have tutored students in Mathematics, English, the arts, Science, and social sciences.
Teaching Style
Teaching is a very holistic activity. I spent the last year and a half working with at-risk kids in a wilderness setting as a Counselor/Teacher. Essentially, I had 8-10 home-schooled children under my care in a therapeutic environment set up for experiential education. I quickly discovered that it is very hard to teach children without first understanding them as individuals. My goal as a tutor was and is not simply the transference of information but also the transference of self-confidence to children that, if cultivated, will last a lifetime and enable children to tackle any educational or life obstacle.
