Experience Summary
While complete my last two years of high school I was a part time tutor at the Home Work Center which assisted students with dyslexia and children needing extra help outside of school. I was involved in this after school program Monday to Friday and I tutored at least one child a day. On weekends and most summers I was a swim instructor for toddlers and children between the ages of 3 and seven. While in college I was involved in a summer program geared towards students of color. I was also involved with the Upward Bound program as a tutor and Office Assistant. My focus on linguistics in my first degree makes me eligible to assist in reading and English. My Liberal Arts background has rounded me in all subject areas which makes me a very good candidate for tutoring elementary to middle school children.
Teaching Style
I have spent most of the last ten years working with children and young adults. I like working with children because there is always something to be learned and even though they are younger they have a unique way of looking at life. They have very curious minds that prompt you as a teacher to look at things differently. My teaching approach is getting to know my student and adjusting to their needs accordingly. Some students learn visually or auditory and so I will plan my teaching style around that while others need you to guide then and to pose questions for them to think and respond. I like having my students tell me what they like and what they hope to get out of sessions together. I also ensure that my students are comfortable with what we are doing and what they are learning.
