Experience Summary
The bulk of my experience is in recreation and entertainment programs for children, although my bachelor's degree is in Music Education (K-12). During college I added a minor in the Environment because it was a strong interest of mine, and very applicable to today's society.
I am eager to work with small groups of children and with individuals so as to better meet the learning needs of studuents. Regular classrooms are rarely afforded the time to cater to such a wide variety of student learning levels, even though it is necessary for top achievement. I am interested in helping children with basic reading and writing. During my time student teaching, I had the students write a paragraph about how a certain piece of music made them feel, and I was in disbelief at their level of writing. I am determined to help students improve!
Teaching Style
My teaching philosophy revolves around my belief that every child can succeed if given the tools and opportunities. I am a very encouraging person, and I am able to help students to realize that they matter and that they have potential in academic studies and beyond. Patience is an integral part of my teaching, but no more so than setting high standards for students. Often, students do not know what they are capable of accomplishing until someone encourages them and provides tools and guidance. My goal as a teacher is to find a way to connect to each individual child in order to help him/her succeed; and, because each student learns differently, this demands constant adaptation and creativity on my part as a teacher. I am dedicated to the students I serve.
