Experience Summary
I am a Masters Candidate and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville studying for a degree in Chinese History. The study of history demands a high degree of research and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to write persuasively and effectively.
In addition to my strong academic ability and background, I have experience teaching in a variety of settings. I have substitute taught history, literature, and geography classes at a local homeschool tutorial. Between finishing my B.A. (also in History) and beginning my M.A., I taught Oral English, Business English, and English for Tourism at a private university in Central China. I also taught American language and culture courses at a nursing school and helped teach a five week intensive English summer camp for Chinese high-school students.
Teaching Style
I enjoy working with students of all ages. I am patient, encouraging, and creative, always willing to step back and try a new approach to a problem. My goal in teaching is to lead the student to independent mastery of the subject, with an emphasis on critical thinking skills and problem solving. I love when a student begins to grasp hold of a concept and realizes his or her own ability and potential.
