Experience Summary
Beginning my sign language career in high school, I have learned to embrace the beautiful language and culture of the deaf community. At that time, I began to tutor a deaf child with minimal language skills and have been tutoring on and off ever since. During my college years, I was asked to tutor American Sign Language for the University of South Florida's athletic program.
Currently, I am an educational sign language interpreter working in a middle school.
I have my Bachelors degree in Communication and Science Disorders with a concentration in the Interpreter Training Track as well as a minor in American Sign Language.
I have my Florida’s Quality Assurance Level One Certification for interpreters and continue to strive to improve my skills everyday.
I love working with students of all ages and enjoy sharing my knowledge of American Sign Language with any that wish to learn.
Teaching Style
Teaching is an extremely important job that must be handled with care and concern for the student. I firmly believe it is important to adapt to the students individual learning style and habits, therefore, my style is to adjust to the best method necessary in order to achieve success while learning. Many students are visual learners and prefer a hands on experience, whereas others could prefer oral, written or other teaching techniques in order to process the information. The first few sessions with a student, I prefer to ask them their learning style preference and gather ideas I feel would benefit the learning environment and continue my teaching style as required.
