Experience Summary
In May I will receive my BS in Elementary Education with a TESL concentration. I have always enjoyed teaching as well as learning. Throughout my time at Oral Roberts University I was able to assist teachers as well as teach lessons in the classrooms each semester for 3 years. In about a week I will complete my final internship at ORU. I have had the opportunity to tutor neighborhood children in math, reading, writing, and spelling at the South Peoria Neighborhood House here in Tulsa. Along with tutoring here in Tulsa I have also tutored some kids in the neighborhood back in Texas. Elementary kids have always been my favorite to tutor because they really have a desire to learn and want to know more about the world they live in. At ORU I have had much experience writing essays as well as other persuasive work.
Teaching Style
When it comes down to my teaching style I believe that Vygotsky's Sociolinguistic theory just about sums it up because I believe that the best way for people in general to learn is by conversation. I believe that for students to really learn and comprehend a particular idea they must be be able to talk it through. Also, I believe that children learn better with a more kinesthetic approach. When the child has a chance to get themselves involved in it they are usually able to recall the information better. I believe that when an idea is relevant to a child they are more engaged which is the key to success.
