Experience Summary
I completed my BS in biology in 2007, and would like to go on to grad school. In the meantime, I am interested in tutoring because of the positive experience I had while tutoring in my college's writing center. I have a year's worth of tutoring experience and strong writing skills due to the many English, philosophy, and science papers I have written over the years. My understanding of the principles of biology is also strong, as is my knowledge of chemistry. I graduated with a GPA of 3.77 and received high grades in nearly all of my science courses.
Teaching Style
My tutoring experience has solidified my love for teaching. In my training, I was taught to be more of a guide than a lecturer, leading students through difficult subjects by suggestion and example rather than by rote statement of facts. I often approach teaching as puzzle solving. I will ask myself how I can best explain a topic to a student while also asking the student to look at the subject from different directions to search for a "solution" to the difficulty they may have understanding. My greatest joy comes when the realization is made, and I have learned to be patient until that moment comes.
