Experience Summary
I have a BS in Elementary Education and a MAEd in Curriculum & Technology. I am a K-6 certified teacher in North Carolina, and I have taught second, third, and sixth grade. In sixth grade I specifically taught mathematics. I also have experience as a teacher assistant in first and fourth grade. I have three years of experience teaching summer school to at-risk students, and I have tutored privately for four years. I am highly trained in mathematics, literacy, and writing instruction.
Teaching Style
My philosphy of education is that children learn through real-world experiences and tapping into their interests will foster their educational development. Another key factor in helping students achieve academic success is assessment and observation of individual learning styles and multiple intelligences. Honing those positive features in students will inspire and motivate their learning to new levels. I believe strongly in problem-solving and hands-on learning to promote higher level thinking skills. I feel children have just as much to teach as they do learn, and that cooperative learning will benefit them not only academically by teaching themselves and their peers, but also socially to promote and build self-esteem.
