Experience Summary
I am an educator with ten years experience in the following areas: Language Arts, Literacy, Social Studies, Humanities and curriculum development. I have worked in both public and private schools, and always strive for academic excellence when working with students. Outside of the educational setting, I have worked as an editor and have published my own writing on-line. I have recently begun tutoring in the area of Reading. I feel very comfortable and competent teaching writing (all genres), history and language arts. Additionally I can provide homework help, and instill effective study skills.
Teaching Style
As a teacher I strive to make the learning process for students structured and creative. For example as a writing teacher I would organize a unit of study around a specific genre of writing, and introduce specific skills like: brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, etc. Students would be invited to discover their own creative voice, and as much as possible I would seek out authentic publishing opportunities for students. My classrooms have produced anthologies, participated in national writing contests, and select students have been published in youth publications. My educational goal is to have students experience success as learners, and to develop a lifelong love of inquiry. I love working with children, and outside of school life I mentor a young child as a volunteer with Big Brother, Big Sister.
