Experience Summary
Through hard work and diligence, I have been able to achieve my academic and career goals; I enjoy helping young students achieve their goals by imparting the study skills and knowledge I have learned. I completed a math, science, and engineering magnet program in high school. During this time, I tutored other high schools students in Spanish. While pursuing my BA in international relations and BS in economics at the University of Pennsylvania, I worked as an America Counts tutor, tutoring 4th grade children in math. I also volunteered at TEACH Philadelphia where I helped elementary and middle schoolchildren with their homework. For the past year, I have worked as a tutor at the Academic Center of Tampa and have tutored elementary and middle schoolchildren in reading, writing, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra.
Teaching Style
I respect children because I find I can learn just as much from them as they can from me. I believe an important step in becoming a good student is self-confidence; because of this, I try to be as motivating and encouraging as possible to my students. I also try to make learning fun, highlighting how interesting a certain concept may be or how practical it is to daily life. I am patient and friendly, so that students can feel comfortable with me and not feel shy to tell me when they do not understand something. My goals are 1) to help students enjoy learning and 2) to help students realize that with hard work and dedication they can accomplish their goals.
