Experience Summary
I started tutoring a blind gentleman in his collegiate algebra course while still an undergrad. I later went on to TA several courses during my graduate work at A&T. While at OSU, I tutored math and chemistry for the Office of Minority Affairs where I conducted regular tutorial sessions in order to prepare students for level algebra, organic and inorganic chemistry exams and laboratories. For my math students I developed problem sets to assist in grasping the fundamental principles of the course. I went on to teach in a home school environment for a local family where I developed the curriculum for an algebra course and conducted SAT preparation focusing on test taking and mathematics skills including algebra and geometry. For the past 5 years I have tutored HS math and chemistry on an as needed basis.
Teaching Style
I love working with students of all ages. I believe that all students can be taught, but not all in the same way. I cater my teaching style to match the learning style of the student. I strive to reach each student where they are, using relevant examples to aid the student in understanding the subject matter. I use humor and my maternal instincts to tap into the students’ hidden potential, emphasizing their strengths while nurturing their weaknesses.
