Experience Summary
As an attorney at law, having graduated and practiced in South Africa and Canada for over 20 years, retiring to Miami to venture into business and subsequently retiring therefrom, I was inspired to utilise my considerable knowledge, experience and skills gained in practice and business into the field of education to assist, instruct and counsel students in the various disciplines necessary to further their careers.
I have extensive grammatical skills gained in drafting of legal documentation and briefs and teaching experience in instructing and conducting classes and workshops in GED preparation in the areas of social science, composition, and reading.
Teaching Style
I believe the most effective way to inspire students to learn is to engage them in becoming curious about the subject. This will in turn focus their attention on the answers to satisfy their curiosity. This involves a number of strategies including weaving a historical connection to the subject and demonstrating how gaining knowledge and insight may impact them directly in their lives. In order to truly understand a subject it is necessary for students to be encouraged to concentrate and focus by posing questions and gaining insight from answering these questions themselves. Each student is motivated in different ways, but my experience in the field indicates that the most effective way to learn and understand a subject is to encourage the student to attempt to provide the answer and in effect, thereby become the teacher.
