Experience Summary
When I became captain of my high school varsity slow-pitch team I took on a huge leadership role. I had a wonderful coach that pushed me to succeed. Since I excelled in math and science, she offered my knowledge to the younger girls on the team that struggled with chemistry and calculus. I learned to love tutoring before practices and decided to apply as a peer tutor through my high school. For the rest of my senior year I spent an hour each week tutoring a freshman in algebra. When I went away to college I volunteered with CHAMPS and mentored a second grader for an hour each week.
Teaching Style
I love teaching and bringing excitement to the subjects that students may dislike because they are difficult. I also struggled in a few of my classes and have taught myself easy ways to remember certain important points. I do my best to make math and science fun and easy. After about seven years of sciences, I have a solid foundation of knowledge and have learned from many different teaching styles. I can use the styles I found most valuable to learn from to help students. I also make sure the student understands what I am teaching and am very open to questions. Asking questions can be extremely beneficial. I usually try to get the student to teach the subject back to me, whether it be by answering a problem or from just asking them. I make the student write, read, and verbalize information to find their best learning pattern.
