Experience Summary
Due to the influence of my parents, who are both math educators, I have always wanted to teach. My first job was on the faculty of a teachers’ university in China, where I taught computer science courses. In 1996 I came to the United States to study mathematics, and earned a Master's degree from Indiana University. While I was studying at IU, I was a teaching assistant and also tutored during the summer. Since then I have taught Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry at a high school, as well as Intermediate Algebra and Finite Math at the college level. In addition, I have experience as a classroom instructor and as a tutor with Kaplan, Inc.
Teaching Style
I love to help people of all ages with their math. It is really rewarding when you show someone how to solve their problems, and then see them smile and feel relieved. I am friendly, considerate, thorough, and easy going. My belief is that when the right methodology is used, math can be fun and anyone can learn. With good math skills, a student can achieve higher goals in life. Math teaches problem solving skills and logical thinking. I see math as a way to help people have a better life.
