Experience Summary
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Hardin Simmons University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in May 2001. I completed the university’s education program and received secondary certification from the state of Texas. I am currently in the process of applying for Colorado teacher certification. I am an excellent candidate for a tutoring positing because of my experience working with adolescents, my enthusiasm and my desire for success. You will find that my college coursework included not only the study of literature and English composition, but also the study of advanced grammar, reading instruction and secondary teaching strategies. I have spent the last five years working for Young Life, international, nonprofit outreach program responsible for mentoring and counseling middle school and high school students. Working for Young Life has given me the opportunity to learn about the physiological, psychological and emotional needs of adolescents as well as develop strong relationships with parents and school administrators.
Teaching Style
Each child that walks into my classroom deserves an excellent education from a caring and committed teacher. Each student deserves to work and learn in a structured, well-organized and comfortable environment. My responsibility as an educator is to provide my students with the skills they will utilize and apply inside and outside the walls of the classroom. As an educator, I must maintain a relationship of mutual respect with the students and allow them to express opinions and ideas in the classroom. The classroom should be a place for the exchange and acquisition of knowledge for both the teacher and the student. My goal as an educator is to provide all of my students the opportunity to gain a quality education that leads to a pursuit of higher education or an improved role in the workforce.
