Experience Summary
My formal teaching experience has been limited to one year at the high school level in the Chicago Public School System. I taught math, algebra, geometry and computer programming. I left after one year to pursue an engineering degree and jobs that would pay more money.
I did tutor high school students while I was in the Masters program at NU, after my one year of teaching. I was also a TA at NU during my Masters program, teaching several different college-level courses. I also taught some technical courses/seminars at Illinos Bell, where I worked for ten years.
Teaching Style
Overall, patience is probably my best attribute when it comes to teaching. I think most kids will "get it" eventually if you can find the right way to approach their own way of thinking and understanding. One-on-one is an excellent way to accomplish that. As a kid, math was pretty easy for me, and years later when I was teaching it, it seemed even easier, but I can certainly identify with the struggle of trying to understand something that just seems a bit outside your grasp.
