Experience Summary
I have always valued education, and enjoy helping others to learn. I am an Illinois State and National Merit Scholar. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland with a major in mathematics and education in 1991. I am a former certified secondary mathematics instructor and taught for Baltimore County Schools. I worked with the Living Classrooms Foundation in Baltimore for ten years, where I helped to develop and run numerous experiential education programs integrating mathematics, science, literature, and history with environmental programs in and around the Chesapeake Bay. I am also a lifelong sailor, a US Coast Guard certified captain and sailing instructor. I teach children and adults how to sail in the Tampa Bay area, as well as in the Keys, Bahamas and Caribbean through my company Sun and Sea Adventures.
Teaching Style
I have always enjoyed teaching others. My students consistently comment on my patience and good humor. In the end though, I believe that eveyone teaches themselves. My job as a teacher is to act as a good guide for a student's learning journey, pointing out the way, helping them to avoid pitfalls, providing encouragement, and good company along the way.
