Experience Summary
Having taught English as a Second Language in an elementary school for five years before going back to graduate school, my experiences are priceless. Not only did I teach English language learners, but I became an advocate for each child and their particular needs. I held other teachers accountable for the ELLs in their classrooms. I got to know my students very well, along with their families. I served on committees encouraging diversity in our community. Prior to teaching, I had a variety of jobs that allowed me to interact with many different types of children.
Teaching Style
I am inspired by children every day. I am patient, laid back and loving, yet fun and energetic. My students are constantly given hands-on activities and given many opportunities to interact with each other. I believe every child is capable of learning, it just takes some longer to develop than others. My students have taught me as much, if not more, than I have taught them. I believe every child has something great to offer, and I hope to help instil pride and confidence in themselves in order to meet teacher and society's expectations.
