Experience Summary
I am a graduate of Brandeis University in Waltham, MA with a bachelor degree in sociology and a minor in Latin American Studies and a legal studies program. I worked at an organization called Sista II Sista where I was responsible for answering questions and explaining assignments. I taught for two years as a sixth grade English teacher at Fannie C. Williams Middle School in New Orleans. While there I was an after school tutor for eighth graders. I was required to tutor five students at a time who all passed the LEAP exam, the LA standardized test. Three of them passed on a mastery level. I also tutored a fifth grade student who attended a private school in New Orleans. I was accepted into a national teaching program called Teach for America where I trained at their summer institute for two months. Since then I have earned my teaching certification and have acquired knowledge by attending workshops, taking classes and spending numerous hours in learning teams with other teachers.
Teaching Style
As I continue to learn about better ways to execute a lesson, my teaching style changes. It is a hands-on approach. Teaching requires me to research the student, figure out which way he/she learns best and then implement a combination of tactile and written lessons that will help the student comprehend the situation. I believe that all students deserve an excellent education. Every student does not learn the same way, but every student can reach significant gains.
