Experience Summary
I have spent the past three years working in a county run program for children. I worked as a gymnastics instructor, in addition to being a summer camp counselor. Prior to that I worked a private school in Washington, DC as an after school program instructor. These opportunities gave me the chance to help children, both in and out of the school setting. While working at the school I had a chance to help the students with their school work. Working as sports instructor helped me to learn many skills that enable me to communicate well with children of all ages and skill levels. My educational background includes many different areas, and my broad range of language skills has enabled me to communicate well with children and adults. My studies of politics have given me the ability to be confident in my knowledge of several different aspects of world and American history.
Teaching Style
The more I work with children, the more I want to become involved in education. I love to be involved in helping a child grow. It's important to teach children to have goals and self-confidence. That with a little hard work they can achieve anything they want. After having been tutored myself on several occasions, both as a young adult in high school, and as a college student, I understand what it is like for the person on the other end. You must make the child feel comfortable, they must be engaged and they should have fun. All of these factors combined make the learning process much easier. I have seen the effect a positive attitude can have on a child, and I would love to continue my work with children.
